Traditionally a hospice was a place where travelers could rest and relax before continuing on their journey. Today the international hospice movement provides palliative or comfort care to individuals living with a terminal illness, and support to their loved ones. The focus is on caring rather than curing.
"You matter because you are you. And you matter until the last moment of your life. We will do all we can to help you, not only to die peacefully, but to live until you die."
- Dame Cicely Saunders (1976) Founder of the modern concept of Hospice
