Hikers, ramblers, and wanderers are all welcome to join the Crossroads Hospice Society for the 8th Annual Hike for Hospice on Sunday May 2, 2010. This national pledge-based family event takes place on the first Sunday of May, raises funds to support people living with a terminal illness and their loved ones.

On Hike Day, from 9 o’clock on, participants bring their pledge sheets to one of two locations listed below and register – if they haven’t already – with the enthusiastic volunteers ready to collect your monies. All registered hikers will be automatically entered into a free draw. Individuals and teams are also eligible for winning prizes based on the most amount of money raised. Warm-up exercises begin at 9:45 and the hike begins. At 11:15 awards and presentations will be handed out. All the while hikers will be treated to refreshments, goodie bags, entertainment, music, ice cream and a by-donation barbeque.
- How do I register for Hike for Hospice?
You can register and raise funds online at the national Hike for Hospice website at www.hikeforhospice.com or you can register on the day of the hike. There is an entrance fee of $10 per person or $25 per family to register.
- Where do I get a pledge form? How do I raise funds?
You can download pledge forms from the link above or contact our office at 604-945-0606 and we’ll email or mail them out to you. If you have participated in Hike for Hospice in the last two years, you will receive a package in the mail around mid-March. Then, fill out a pledge form and set your fundraising goal. Collect monies from your family and friends or enter as a team as a team and become eligible for prizes. Cash, cheques, Visa and MasterCard accepted. Make cheques payable to “Crossroads Hospice Society”.
- Where is Hike for Hospice held? How long are the routes?
Hike for Hospice is held in two locations – one in Port Coquitlam and the other in Port Moody however, hikers come from all across the Lower Mainland. Hikers can choose from two 5km routes:
Hyde Creek Recreation Centre
1379 Laurier Avenue, Port Coquitlam
Follows the Traboulay PoCo Trail
Port Moody City Hall
100 Newport Drive, Port Moody
Follows the nature reserve on Burrard Inlet
- How else can I support Hike for Hospice?
If you want to do more than hike, we have several ways you can help support this event and Crossroads Hospice Society. For example you can:
- become an event sponsor;
- give a cash donation; or
- help us promote by displaying our posters, brochures or information on your website and within your business.

If you can't participate in this year’s Hike for Hospice, please consider becoming a Hike Committee Member to help us organize the details of this exciting day.
- How will the proceeds of Hike for Hospice be used?
One hundred percent of the funds raised will remain in our Tri-Cities community to help Crossroads Hospice Society continue to provide compassionate care to those facing the end of life experience. We support the community through the Crossroads Inlet Centre Hospice and the Crossroads Hospice Labyrinth Healing Garden as well as a wide-range of grief and bereavement programs and services.
