Patient Support
Patient comfort and needs are paramount in our desire to meet the needs of those facing life limiting and terminal illnesses. All staff members and volunteers, work together to ensure that patients seeking emotional as well as practical support have someone available to listen attentively to offer emotional support. Some areas of support include, but are not limited to:

  • Meal delivery and patient feeding
  • Traditional tea service
  • Visits with patients
  • Singing, reading and game playing
  • Spiritual support

Caregiver Support
Caregiver support volunteers are available to family members who need a break from the bedside of the loved one during the dying process. A weekly caregiver group is available for loved ones who wish to attend and volunteers are available to sit vigils and companion loved ones through this difficult time.

Labyrinth Healing Garden
A short walk from the Crossroads Inlet Centre Hospice, in Port Moody's Pioneer Memorial Park, is a place of healing and beauty called the Crossroads Hospice Labyrinth Healing Garden. Patients, families and loved ones are all encouraged to visit this healing garden as a way to practice mindful meditation and relaxation. Walking groups and tours are arranged by staff and volunteers to take a journey into healing. Click here to find out more

Life Reviews
Hospice patients can access, by appointment, the services of a volunteer trained in Life Review techniques. This is an opportunity to tell your stories - in your way - so you can and pass them on to your loved ones.

Music Program
Music soothes the soul. Our music program offers cherished interaction between talented, trained musicians and patients and families. Patients, staff and families, have access to a wide repertoire for all ages and cultural backgrounds, relaxation, celebration of birthdays, etc. It can facilitate family togetherness, sharing of memories and bring joy in the moment.

ArtCart Program
This program has a significant positive impact on the life of the hospice as families and friends gather round the table in our Great Room to share laughter and stories. This unique program offers an opportunity to engage in an art-making experience that allows for moments of respite with other family members and friends while reducing stress and anxiety. Team members see the ArtCart program as a way to let them interact with families on a different level. Crafts include memory albums or picture collages, hand made cards and memory/dream boxes.

Pet Therapy
Pet Therapy volunteers are available for visits to help combat depression, provide social interaction and satisfy a nonverbal need to touch. All pets are tested for temperament and therapeutic qualities and must be certified by their veterinarians on an annual basis. All pets are required to have up-to-date vaccinations and be in good general health.

Tea Service
The 'Tea Service' at Crossroads Inlet Centre Hospice, is hosted by two volunteers every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday afternoon. Volunteers bring freshly baked goods and prepare a complete coffee and tea service. A beautiful silver tea service is placed on a lovely wooden tea wagon, along with a variety of special teacups and saucers and the baked goods. The families, friends and patients appreciate the elegance and graciousness. This little bit of respect and refinement in the lives of people dealing with difficult circumstances, is so appreciated and enjoyed.

Relaxation Therapies
Crossroads Hospice Society volunteers with specific training offer a variety of relaxation therapies such as Reiki, Therapeutic Touch, Foot Stroking, and Massage, which can help ease pain, reduce stress and ultimately promote relaxation.
